During a Sunday morning appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Wayne LaPierre doubled down on his much-maligned proposal to have armed guards in American schools.
“If it’s crazy to call for putting police and armed security in our schools to protect our children, then call me crazy,” the National Rifle Association CEO told host David Gregory, adding that the powerful gun lobby would throw its support behind legislation to have police officers stationed at every school in the country.
Actually, crazy is exactly what the New York Daily News and the New York Post called LaPierre after the NRA’s bizarre press conference Friday in which the organization finally responded to the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
LaPierre also dismissed the effort by Sen. Dianne Feinstein to renew the assault-weapons ban after the new Congress is sworn in next month.. “I think that is a phony piece of legislation and I do not believe it will pass for this reason: It’s all built on lies,” he said.
