Aker Appoints New VP for Subsea Greenfield Projects

Oilfield service provider Aker Solutions reported Tuesday that its UK operation has appointed a new vice president to lead subsea greenfield projects.

Aker said that Bob Shaw's appointment is the latest in a series of new senior management appointments at the firm's subsea business in Aberdeen, Scotland, as the company embarks on the next stage of its growth strategy.

Shaw will lead development of all greenfield projects, focusing on work for key clients who include Statoil, Petrobras, Total, Dana Petroleum and ENI.

Aker Solutions UK Managing Director Matt Corbin commented in a statement:

“This is a key appointment for our subsea business in the UK. We have won a number of major contracts in recent months and Bob will play an important role in realizing our strategy as we look to capitalize on further opportunities going forward."

Matra Appoints New Chairman

Russia-focused junior Matra Petroleum announced Friday that it has appointed Bill Guest as its new non-executive chairman.

Matra said that Guest has more than 37 years of experience in the upstream oil and gas industry, having trained as a geologist and petroleum engineer. He has been a non-executive director of Matra since 2010 and also sits on the boards of Sacoil Holdings and British European Energy.

Matra Chief Executive Maxim Barskiy commented in a statement:

"We are fortunate to be able to call upon the experience of Bill Guest as chairman of Matra. As a non-executive director of the company his knowledge and understanding is held in the highest regard. His leadership will be invaluable as we continue to work diligently to execute the company's stated strategy."

Matra's previous chairman, Sire Michael Jenkins, died at the start of April.

Gulfsands Appoints New CEO

North Africa and Middle East-focused Gulfsands Petroleum announced Thursday that it has appointed a new chief executive officer.

Gulfsands said that Mahdi Sajjad, currently the firm's executive director and president, has been appointed to succeed Ric Malcolm as CEO. The change is effective immediately, although Malcolm has agreed to remain available until the early summer to facilitate the transition in management.

Malcolm commented in a statement:

"Following the acquisition of Cabre Maroc in Morocco, the successful award of two permits in Colombia and the consolidation of our position in Tunisia, Gulfsands Petroleum has embarked upon a new phase in its evolution. This represents an appropriate time for me to move on, confident that I am leaving to my successors a solid business platform that should provide the company with a promising future. 

"I have therefore offered to remain available until the early summer to assist the company during this period of management transition."

Centrica Energy Appoints New Upstream MD

The UK's Centrica Energy announced Tuesday that Sarwjit Sambhi will succeed Jonathan Roger as the managing director of Centrica Energy Upstream at the end of June.

Sambhi is currently Centrica Energy's director of major capital projects and currently oversees development and delivery across the firm's portfolio of exploration and production projects, as well as power projects.

Sambhi commented in a company statement:

"This is an exciting time to be leading Centrica Energy's upstream business. As we integrate our international operations, we will be making major investment decisions which will shape the future of the business and help secure energy supplies for the UK. With a team that includes some of the highest performing individuals in the industry, I have no doubt that the business has a successful future ahead."

Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority announced Monday that Anne Næss Myhrvold has been appointed to serve as its director general for a term of six years.

Myhrvold is currently at BP Norge, which she joined in 2002. She has served as its head of health, safety and the environment since 2009. Earlier in her career, Myhrvold worked in safety at the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.

The PSA said that Myhrvold will take over the role of director general on May 1, 2013.

BG Group Appoints New Director

UK gas major BG Group has appointed a new non-executive director to help the firm with its activities in China, it announced Monday.

Lim Haw-Kuang will fill the vacancy left by Philippe Varin, who stood down from BG's board in February after seven years as a non-executive director.

Victoria O&G Appoints New CEO

Junior firm Victoria Oil and Gas announced Tuesday that it has appointed John Scott as its new CEO.

Scott, who started out his career at BP, has more than 30 years' experience in the upstream and downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry, and in energy banking. He has served in technical and senior commercial roles with the British National Oil Company and Halliburton. He has also held various investment banking roles with Citigroup, Standard Bank and ABN Amro.

With its operations focused on Cameroon and the former Soviet Union, Victoria noted Scott's corporate finance experience in both West Africa and Russia.

Most recently, Scott served as an executive at Indus Gas – an oil and gas exploration company focused on Rajasthan, India.

Ophir Appoints New Head of Corporate Strategy

Africa-focused Ophir Energy announced Tuesday that it has appointed a new director of corporate strategy.

Dennis McShane, who previously served as a non-executive director of the Ophir from October 2007, has 25 years' experience working in the resources sector having been an investment banker with JPMorgan Chase, which included many years working across Africa.

Ophir also announced that Bill Schrader has been appointed as a non-executive director to its board. Schrader has more than 25 years' experience at BP, including as country head of Indonesia and Angola.

Ophir Chairman Nicholas Smith commented in a statement:

"We are very pleased to welcome Bill Schrader to Ophir's Board. His oil and gas operational experience in complex emerging markets will be invaluable to us. Antrim Energy Appoints New CFO

Canada's Antrim Energy announced Thursday that Chief Financial Officer Doug Olson will retire at the end of March this year. The firm is to appoint Anthony Potter, a former employee of the firm, as its new CFO.

Antrim said that Potter has more than 26 years of experience with publicly-quoted international oil and gas exploration and development companies. He has provided strategic planning, finance, tax and risk management advice in senior management roles in the private and public oil and gas sectors.

WHL Energy Appoints Ex-Exoma Founding MD as Company Secretary

Australian-listed WHL Energy said Wednesday that it has appointed David Rowbottam as Company Secretary. Rowbottam's appointment will be effective Jan. 31.

Rowbottam will add the duties of Company Secretary to his current role as WHL Energy's Finance Director. He brings to the expanded role recent experience as a General Manager, Chief Financial Officer, Financial Controller and Company Secretary. He has also held senior management positions with a number of companies including Antares Energy, Alinta Group and the BHP Group.

Rowbottam was the founding Managing Director of ASX-listed oil and gas exploration company Exoma Energy until March 2010, and he remains a Director of several unlisted companies.
