Expro Opens Aberdeen Office

The Rt. Hon. Dr. Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills has officially opened international oilfield services company, Expro's new well intervention facility in Aberdeen.

The Carnegie and Young facilities, located in Dyce, Aberdeen, will enhance the company's growing well intervention business, housing a team of approximately 200 employees. Combined with the forthcoming renovation of the Bruce building, which will house the subsea qualification facilities, this represents nearly $7.6 million (GBP 5 million) investment over the next 12 months.

Expro's offices in Aberdeen house a number of products/business, including; well intervention, well integrity, well testing and well services; subsea safety systems; drill stem testing and tubing conveyed perforating. To meet increasing business demand, the company has employed more than 150 new employees in the UK over the past year, bringing the total headcount to over 1100 people locally. Expro continues to support employees through a range of specialized development programs, aimed at technician, graduate, ex-armed forces and management.

The investment in people and infrastructure builds on Expro's announcement today, that the company is also investing $20 million (GBP 13 million) in new build well testing equipment, bolstering its fleet within Europe / CIS Region to support business and market growth across the region.

As part of the investment, driven by prolific discoveries in 2011/12 and the forecast increase in rig activity over the next three to five years, Expro will be adding to its existing fleet in UK and Norway to meet the demand from its customers.

Hydro Group Opens Singapore Office

Scottish underwater components firm Hydro Group announced Tuesday it has opened a new Singapore office.

The Aberdeen-based company said that it had made the move since Singapore represents its second-largest export market, with the firm identifying more than $1.5 million of potential sales in the region annually.

The new office is aimed at supporting Hydro Group's increasing presence in South East Asia, where it plans to build on its sales of subsea optical cables, electrical cables and connectors to the wider energy market as well as the defense sector.

Hydro Managing Director Doug Whyte commented in a statement:

Global CCS Institute Opens Beijing Office

The Global Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Institute Friday opened an office in Beijing, highlighting the important role that China plays in the development of low-emissions technologies.

Founded by the Australian Government, the Global CCS Institute helps carbon-intensive economies accelerate the uptake of CCS technologies, and collects and disseminates expertise to governments and project proponents all over the world.

Minister for Resources and Energy, Martin Ferguson AM MP, said the new office will allow the institute to further enhance its engagement with its members in the China region.

"China accounts for the largest share of projected growth in global energy use, with its demand rising by 60 per cent by 2035," Minister Ferguson said.

"Australia and China rely heavily on coal for power generation, which provides a strong incentive for both countries to work together on the uptake of technologies that reduce carbon emissions.

"China's inherent economies of scale, and world-leading experience in research and development, make it of critical importance to the deployment of clean energy technologies worldwide.

"The lessons learnt and shared by the institute through its work in China will help governments and project proponents from around the world, including Australia, to accelerate the deployment of CCS technologies."

The Global CCS Institute also has regional offices in Europe, North America and Japan.

The Institute has an international Membership base of 368 government, industry, non-government and research organisations from around the world.  The Institute’s Membership covers more than 80 per cent of the world’s CO2 emissions from energy and industrial sources.

In addition to its support for the institute, the Australian Government is investing over $2 billion in a range of measures to assist the development of low-emissions technologies, including the CCS Flagships program.

The International Energy Agency expects fossil fuels to continue to be a significant contributor to meetings the world’s energy needs for the foreseeable future.

As such, the development and deployment of low-emissions technologies, including CCS, is critical to reducing global carbon emissions.

TAM Opens New West Texas Office

TAM International announced Tuesday the opening of a new district office and shop in Midland, Texas. The new office is the latest in a series of recent growth and expansion efforts that ensure the company is well positioned to offer the highest level of customer service and support in rapid growth markets, including the Permian Basin.
