ENI Finds Gas Onshore Pakistan

Italy's ENI reported Monday that it has made a new gas discovery on the Sukhpur Block, located in the Kirthar Foldbelt onshore Pakistan.

ENI said its Lundali-1 NFW exploration well was drilled to a total depth of 8,727 feet and encountered gas-bearing sands in the Paleocene sequence. During production testing the well produced gas that flowed up to a rate of 33 million cubic feet per day.

ENI added that the new discovery marks "another success" in its near field exploration strategy in the country. The additional production at Lundali will allow the optimization of the existing Eni's infrastructure including the Bhit gas processing facility located some 18 miles to the west of the block. The company also said the result confirms the significant exploration potential of the Sukhpur Block where it plans to drill another exploration well within next twelve months.

ENI's joint venture partners in the Sukhpur Block included PPL, with a 30-percent interest, and KUFPEC, which has a 25-percent stake.

Europa Begins Seismic Acquisition over UK Onshore License

Europa Oil & Gas announced Tuesday that it has started the acquisition of 2D seismic data on its onshore PEDL 181 license in east Lincolnshire, UK.

According to the company, PEDL 181 is located in a working hydrocarbon system where a number of discoveries have been made.

Europa said that it will focus on four leads in the southern part of the license, where several prospects have been confirmed following technical evaluation. Three leads lie within the northeast trending Caistor anticline, while another – named Cuxwold – is located south of the anticline.

Europa's existing oil production at the Crosby Warren field lies at the westernmost end of the Brigg-Broughton anticline – which is an analogous trend to the west of the Caistor anticline.

The company has now begun the acquisition of approximately 50 miles of 2D seismic, as well as the reprocessing of existing 3D seismic over the Caistor anticline.

Europa CEO Hugh Mackay commented in a statement:

"The identification of four leads on PEDL 181, which is located next to the PEDL 180 & 182 licences, where we are due to drill an exploration well this year, and our producing oil field at Crosby Warren, is highly encouraging. As previously identified targets are drilled, it is important we maintain a pipeline of leads and prospects at various stages of development.

"Our strategy of developing a diversified asset base comprised of multiple licences including UK production and exploration, a gas appraisal project onshore France, and high impact frontier exploration in the Irish Atlantic Margin where we recently identified two large prospects, provides a portfolio for future drilling. The results of the 2D seismic acquisition
programme, alongside the interpretation of the reprocessed existing 3D datasets, will further define the prospectivity of the PEDL 181 licence and determine our future work programme."

Europa has a 50-percent interest in the PEDL 181 license and is the operator. Egdon Resources UK and Celtique Energie Petroleum each hold a 25-percent stake.

Senex Starts Fracture Stimulation Project Onshore Southern Cooper Basin

Senex Energy, the operator of the onshore PEL 115 permit, disclosed Wednesday that it has started fracture stimulation operations at the Kingston Rule-1 unconventional gas exploration well in the Southern Cooper basin.

The company has also started work over and zone perforation operations at the Hornet-1 well sited in the same permit.
The fracture stimulation program over the wells will be completed over a two-month period, with flow testing to continue into June this year.

Kingston Rule-1 was drilled by Senex late last year and intersected 174 feet (53 meters)of net gas pay, with 30 feet (nine meters) in the Epsilon Formation and 144 feet (44 meters) in the Patchawarra Formation tight gas sands. The well also intersected 492 feet (150 meters) of Murteree and Roseneath Shales. Mud logs confirmed the presence of liquid hydrocarbons throughout the Permian section.

The multi-stage fracture stimulation of Kingston Rule-1 targets tight gas sands within the Patchawarra and Epsilon formations. At present, three of a total six zones have been fracture stimulated with bridge plugs set between each zone. The forward operation will be to fracture stimulate the remaining three zones.

Hornet-1 was drilled by Victoria Petroleum in 2004 and intersected gas shows in the Epsilon Formation and 91 feet (28 meters) of net gas pay in the Patchawarra Formation. Two drill stem tests were conducted on Hornet-1 and resulted in gas flowing to surface. The multi-stage stimulation of Hornet-1 will target additional gas sands within the Patchawarra Formation.

As Hornet-1 was a pre-existing well, a work over rig was brought onto the site, to prepare the well for fracture stimulation and perforate the zones in advance of the fracture stimulation equipment arriving onsite.

"We are very pleased that the stimulation of Kingston Rule-1 has commenced and look forward to evaluating the results, along with those from Hornet-1, over the coming months. There is a lot of interest in the unconventional gas potential which is believed to exist in the Cooper Basin and we are excited to be part of it," Orca Energy's Executive Director, Greg Bandy, said in a statement.

Senex has an 80 percent interest in both of the wells, while Ocra Energy holds the remaining 20 percent stake.

W&T Offshore to Boost 2013 Onshore, Offshore Production

W&T Offshore, Inc. announced production guidance for the first quarter of 2013 in a range of 4.3 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe) to 4.8 MMboe and for the full year of 2013 in a range of 17.0 MMboe to 18.7 MMboe.

W&T Offshore began 2013 with a high level of activity that was heavily weighted toward exploration projects and currently have four rigs working in the Gulf of Mexico. W&T Offshore believes its offshore exploration program offers solid opportunities for organic reserve and production growth, as well as building on recent successes.

At its highly successful Mahogany field, the fifth well in the multi-well drilling program, the Ship Shoal ("SS") 349 A-9 development well was brought on production in mid-January at an initial rate of approximately 2,700 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) from the P-sand, which has traditionally been the field's principal productive reservoir. The A-9 well exceeded pre-drill expectations in the main target. Additionally, it discovered another upside reservoir which was also completed and will be retained as a future zone change, increasing total proved reserves for the field. Current average daily gross production from the Mahogany field is approximately 9,150 barrels of oil equivalent (approximately 75% crude oil) which is up from about 1,300 boepd gross in late 2011, an increase of approximately 700% over the last 15 months.

On January 15, 2013, W&T Offshore spud the SS 349 A-14 well, the sixth well in the multi-well drilling program at its Mahogany field, which is an exploration well designed to test the T-sand, a deep play located beneath the main reservoir. If successful, it will expand its proved reserves and possibly create additional development opportunities in the field. The A-14 well also holds proved reserves in the P-sand level, serving as a robust back-up to the exploratory T-sand test. Following the SS 349 A-14 well, W&T Offshore plans to drill the SS 349 A-15 well which is planned to target multiple stacked amplitudes in the sub-salt section. The A-15 also has additional field expansion potential in the P-sand and if successful will further expand the P-sand reservoir limits. W&T Offshore continues to have excellent drilling results to date in this high impact oil field and in the reserve and production expansion potential this field has for the Company.

In addition, W&T Offshore is currently drilling two exploration wells in the Main Pass ("MP") Area. One is located at the MP 108 field, being the MP 108 B-1 well targeting the Tex W-6 sand. W&T Offshore plans to drill another well, the MP 108 B-2 well, immediately following operations on the MP 108 B-1 well. The company recently drilled the MP 159 #1 well to TD but have deemed the well non-commercial. The well is currently being plugged.

W&T Offshore anticipates drilling at least one additional deepwater exploration well in 2013, and will provide the details for that well in the future. W&T Offshore expects to have additional capital expenditures in 2013 on the Mississippi Canyon ("MC") 698 "Big Bend" deepwater discovery that reached total depth in late 2012, once it is sanctioned. Additionally, the company is currently evaluating the 65 deepwater leasehold blocks it acquired in the Newfield property acquisition in the fourth quarter of last year. As a result of the high level of interest in those undeveloped leases, W&T Offshore is currently working on several joint venture arrangements.

The company's development activity in the Gulf of Mexico includes the MC 243 "Matterhorn" A-2 ST well which is currently drilling in the deepwater and expected to add approximately 1,000 boepd production of initial rate.W&T Offshore expects to follow this well with the planned MC 243 A-5 well, a water injection well that will be used for pressure maintenance in the field. The A-5 well is expected to increase the ultimate recovery of the eastern sector of the field, add reserves and assuming success, would lead to additional secondary reserves expansion in other areas of the field.

Other development wells on the 2013 schedule include the High Island 21 A-1 well targeting the LH-20 sand which will twin the previously producing High Island 21 A-3 well. W&T Offshore also expects to finish the tie-back and hook up of the West Cameron 73, a 2012 shelf discovery well with first production expected in the third quarter of 2013.

Onshore, as a result of the company's success with both the Wolfcamp horizontal drilling program and the 40-acre infill spacing, W&T Offshore added value to its Yellow Rose project in the Permian Basin (Martin, Dawson, Gaines and Andrews counties). The 2013 budget provides for the drilling of seven horizontal and 20 vertical wells and it currently has two rigs running in the field.

During the fourth quarter of 2012, the company completed 18 new wells at the Yellow Rose project, bringing the total completed wells for 2012 to 64 wells. During 2012, W&T focused on three specific areas to add value to the Yellow Rose Wolfberry development, which were: (1) enhanced 80 acre vertical development drilling program, (2) down-spaced pilot program to 40 acre spacing vertical development, and (3) exploring the horizontal development potential in the Wolfcamp. Tactically, W&T Offshore focused on field optimization, as well as on continuous and aggressive stimulation development and deployment in the company's vertical and horizontal campaigns. Current production rate for the Yellow Rose project is approximately 5,150 boepd gross which is 100% above field production rates a year ago. This production performance improvement is driven by several factors including attractive vertical well completion performance, continued improvements in the field uptime and effectiveness, attractive results from the 40-acre infill program and, most recently, encouraging results from the new Wolfcamp horizontal wells.

The more recent vertical wells have seen improved initial production rates with the latest wells averaging approximately 67 boepd (average 30 day production rate) as it continues to refine its fracture stimulation program, with vertical well costs averaging approximately $ 2.3 million. Prior to year end 2012, the company carried no "proved" reserves associated with down-spaced 40 acre locations. A portion of its 2012 drilling capital was aimed at infill drilling specific pilot areas to 40 acre vertical well spacing and the company had good success with the down-spacing program, observing positive incremental production and incremental reserves in its 40 acre pilot areas. At year end, W&T Offshore began booking a portion of its 40 acre infill locations into "proved" and expect that trend to continue into 2013, 2014 and beyond. Should it be able to fully develop its acreage on 40 acre locations, the company would possess a total of 200 to 300 40-acre locations across the Yellow Rose project.

Complementing its vertical development, during 2012 W&T Offshore drilled and brought on line two new horizontal Wolfcamp wells, with one well achieving an initial production ("IP") rate of 485 boepd and another well achieving 346 boepd. W&T's longest Wolfcamp horizontal has been a 7,482' lateral with a 23 stage frac treatment. The most recent horizontal well, currently on flowback, has just been stimulated with a 28 stage frac treatment. W&T Offshore is pleased with its initial horizontal well results and the leading completion practices in this emerging play. As a result of the successful horizontal exploration tests of the Wolfcamp formation, W&T Offshore has budgeted to drill and complete seven horizontal Wolfcamp wells for 2013. These wells are designed to have an average lateral length of 5,400 feet completed with between 20 and 22 hydraulic fracturing stages at a total well cost of approximately $ 6.0 million to $7.0 million, depending on the length of the lateral. Based on the early evaluation of the program, W&T Offshore expects IP rates of 350 to 400 boepd and estimated ultimate recoveries ("EUR") of 300 to 450 MMboe, also depending on the length of the lateral. Assuming continued success with this program, W&T Offshore anticipates expanding its horizontal operations in the Wolfcamp formation and potentially testing additional horizontal levels (benches) in other formations on its acreage position. Ultimately, W&T Offshore may consider further vertical well down spacing to 20-acre spacing or even less, adding even greater development potential for its acreage position.

In Terry County, West Texas, the horizontal drilling program is progressing with two wells fracture stimulated and on flowback. To date, the company does not have enough information on the flowbacks to determine its future development plans. W&T Offshore anticipates having more information within the next few months.

In East Texas at the Star Prospect, W&T Offshore completed drilling and fracture stimulation of the third and fourth wells of its initial delineation program. Both of those wells are now on flowback, and the company should be able to determine its future plans on this project in the near term.

Senex Starts Fracture Stimulation Program Onshore Cooper Basin

Senex Energy disclosed Thursday that it has started on a large scale fracture stimulation program on its unconventional gas exploration wells in the onshore Cooper Basin, beginning with Skipton-1 in PEL 516.

The five well program aims to delineate unconventional gas resources in several Senex permits in the southern and northern South Australian Cooper Basin.

Senex has successfully drilled three new dedicated unconventional gas exploration wells in its southern permits: Skipton-1, Kingston Rule-1, and Talaq-1. A fourth well, Paning-2 in the northern Cooper Basin, has successfully been drilled and is currently being cased. Senex observed significant zones of net gas pay within all of these wells.

This program involves fracture stimulation and flow testing of these wells, along with the existing Hornet-1 well which flowed gas to surface during drilling in 2004. Senex expects this program will provide information on post-fracture production rates and detailed information to allow the refinement of fracture stimulation design within tight gas sands, shales and deep coals in the Cooper Basin.

In particular, the program seeks to determine the fracture complexity and orientation within both the primary target Patchawarra Formation sands and the secondary targets Roseneath, Epsilon and Murteree shale and tight sand package and the Toolachee and Patchawarra coals.

Senex's Managing Director Ian Davies, noted that the fracture stimulation program would provide valuable information for the appraisal and testing of its unconventional gas assets in the Cooper Basin.

"For Senex, this is another major step forward in the appraisal of our highly prospective unconventional gas assets," Davies said in a statement.

Senex expects the current program will result in the certification of material contingent resources. Measurement of gas flows from these wells will influence the design and location of pilot programs required for longer term production testing and reserves certification.

Upon completion of the Skipton-1 program, Senex will fracture stimulate Kingston Rule-1, Talaq-1, Hornet-1 and Paning-2. The fracture stimulation program will be completed over a two month period, with flow testing to continue into June this year.

Key Petroleum Strikes Oil in the Onshore Canning Basin

Key Petroleum revealed Monday that it has encountered oil shows across a 141 foot interval at its Cyrene-1 exploration well in the onshore Canning Basin, Western Australia.

The oil shows were observed in the lower Grant and Goldwyer Formations from 3,002 feet to 3,143 feet, and are indicative of an active source rock believed to have unconventional oil or gas potential. Interbedded limestones were observed in the cuttings of the Goldwyer Formation.

DCA, which is drilling the well with Rig 7, has conducted a wiper trip and is completing testing of blowout preventers prior to running in the hole with the core barrel to begin coring a 177 foot section of the Goldwyer Formation shale that is believed to exhibit the best total organic content.

The top Goldwyer Formation intersected at 3,012 feet, the same depth encountered at the Hedonia-1 well.

"Hedonia-1, located on an anticlinal feature, lost circulation of its drilling fluids upon drilling into the top the Ordovician-aged Willara limestones. This severe lost circulation indicates high permeability in the reservoir where a significant gas show was recorded," Key said in a statement on its website.

Key noted that the Ordovician-aged Willara limestones is "an exciting reservoir"; a formation that was never properly tested. The testing program on Hedonia-1 well was terminated prematurely due to weather.

Cyrene-1 is being drilled through a 443 foot section within Goldwyer Formation shales to assess its potential as for unconventional hydrocarbons, before drilling through the conventional Willara Formation that is estimated to host 5 million barrels of oil.

The well has a planned total depth of 3,478 feet.

The Goldwyer shale contains some 764 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of risked gas in place and 229 tcf of risked recoverable gas, the largest estimate for any basin in Australia, according an April 2011 report by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on world shale gas resources.

Gazprom to Start Drilling Onshore Gas Wells in Feb

Bangladesh, Jan. 24 -- Russian oil and gas giant Gazprom will start drilling the country's onshore gas wells in February, a senior Petrobangla official said.

Top Gazprom officials will be visiting Dhaka next week, while inaugurating its first-ever drilling works in Bangladesh, Petrobangla Chairman Dr Hussain Monsur told the FE.

The Russian firm is now carrying out civil works for drilling onshore gas wells in the country's state-run gas-fields.

Gazprom has already shipped two modern drilling rigs for Bangladesh to initiate drilling wells. Initially, the company will drill two wells in Titas and Srikail gas-fields with the rigs, he added.

Gazprom will be the first foreign company in Bangladesh to drill onshore wells on a contract basis to increase the country's overall gas output.

Other international oil companies (IOCs), active in Bangladesh, operate through signing production-sharing contracts (PSCs) or in joint ventures with the Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (Bapex).

Titas gas-field, owned by the Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Ltd (BGFCL), is the country's second largest gas producing field with its average output of around 452 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) from 15 gas wells.

However, gas production from the Srikail field has not started yet.

The Russian company inked deals with Petrobangla subsidiaries - BGFCL, Sylhet Gas Fields Ltd (SGFL) and Bapex - on April 26, 2012 to drill 10 development wells across six gas-fields at a total cost of US$ 193.5 million.

It will drill four development wells in BGFCL's Titas gas-field and one well in SGFL's Rashidpur gas-field.

The Petrobangla chairman expressed the hope that Gazprom would be able to drill all the 10 wells by 2013, and natural gas output from these wells would be around 200 mmcfd.

Gazprom's contracts cover construction of drilling pad, camp warehouse and site preparation, rig shifting and commissioning, procurement of drilling materials, engagement of third party services, drilling, testing and commissioning and insurance.

Petrobangla approached Gazprom to develop the wells after Polish oil and gas explorer Poszukiwania Nastyi Gazu Krakow backed out despite being selected in a competitive tender two years ago.

The country subsequently passed a law that bypasses the tender process, and prevents deals inked under the new law from being challenged in courts.

Bangladesh's natural gas output currently hovers around 2,210 mmcfd against the demand for over 2,700-3,000 mmcfd.

The shortage in gas supply has compelled Petrobangla to go for rationing in supply to industries, power plants and compressed natural gas (CNG) filling stations, and to suspend officially new gas connections to households since July 2010.
