Adnoc Selects Shell to Operate Bab Gas Field

DUBAI - State-run Abu Dhabi National Oil Co., or Adnoc, has selected Royal Dutch Shell PLC to operate the strategically important Bab sour-gas field, the International Oil Daily reported Tuesday, citing industry sources.

The company had shortlisted Shell and French major Total SA for the estimated $10 billion deal, but Shell won the bid, according to the report in the daily, which is run by Energy Intelligence Group.

Both Shell and Total had put forward competitive offers, but the main difference was their approach in handling the massive amounts of sulfur produced at the field.

The Bab field, once developed, will produce 500 million-800 million cubic feet of gas per day, but expertise is required to handle the large amounts of sulfur generated from the estimated 15% hydrogen sulfide content of the gas.

Shell recommended exporting the sulfur, while Total submitted a proposal to reinject the sulfur back into the reservoir, the report said.

The deal needs to be signed off by the emirate's highest oil authority, the Supreme Petroleum Council--which includes the most senior leaders in the emirate--according to the report.

Shell declined comment when contacted by Dow Jones Newswires.

Aquatech to Operate Water Treatment Facility for Shale Producers

Aquatech, a world leader in wastewater treatment recycle and reuse, has been granted a permit to operate a central treatment facility in Tioga County, Pennsylvania. The facility, designed using Aquatech's MoSuite set of technologies, will deliver a menu of wastewater treatment and recycle services to the regional shale gas producers and is accepting customer orders.

MoSuite is an effective combination of MoTreat and MoVap process units, a pretreatment and distillation evaporator specifically designed to treat drill fluids, frac flowback, production brine and other wastewaters from exploration and production of conventional and unconventional oil and gas. The suite of processing units delivers a tiered menu of services including filtration, disinfection, solids handling, pretreatment and evaporation concentration.

Aquatech's offering at the Tioga facility will provide high quality wastewater treatment that delivers consistent treated water quality and flexible water management solutions for the industry.

Michael Nawrath, Aquatech's sales manager said, "We bring safe and reliable technology solutions to deliver cost sustainable water management that is adaptable to the ever changing needs of the gas producers in the region."

Founded in 1981, Aquatech is based in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, which is in the heart of the Marcellus Shale region. Aquatech's distillation evaporator and crystallization technologies treat all levels of shale oil and gas water and wastewater including high total dissolved solids (TDS) production brine. Globally, the company treats nearly 1,000,000 barrels of oil and gas field produced water per day, helping producers minimize the amount of fresh water used in the well development process and significantly reducing the volume of wastewater that must be disposed or treated off-site. This approach alleviates the burden on local water resources during shale gas exploration.

Ecuador's Petroamazonas to Operate With $3.58B Budget

QUITO, Ecuador - Ecuador's state-run oil company, Petroamazonas, will operate with a $3.58 billion budget this year, the company said Wednesday.

Of that amount, about 60% will be used for investment projects for exploration and the production of crude oil and natural gas. The remaining amount will be allocated for operating costs and debt payments, among other things.

As part of its growth strategy, Petroamazonas plans to carry out five pilot projects of oil-enhanced recovery, aiming to increase reserves and production.

Petroamazonas, which in January merged with state-run Petroecuador, operates 14 oil blocks, including the Amistad gas field. Petroecuador, meanwhile, controls sales, refining and transportation activities.

Petroamazonas produces about 313,000 barrels of crude oil a day, about 62% of the Ecuador's oil output.

PTTEP Aims to Operate Montara Field at 100% of Capacity by June

PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP) confirmed Tuesday that it is aiming to start operations in the Montara field offshore Western Australia by end-March this year, with a ramp-up of production to 100 percent of capacity expected by end-June.

"Oil production from the Montara field will be in the range of 20,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) to 23,000 bopd this year," a spokesperson from PTTEP told Rigzone.

The Montara Development Project (MDP) started with the drilling of production wells in March 2008. The installation of the well head platform jacket and topsides was being completed in August 2009. On Aug. 21, 2009, while drilling completion activities were underway, there was an uncontrolled release of gas, oil, condensate and water vapour from the H1 well.

A relief well successfully intersected the H1 well and briefly stopped the well release before the well fluids caught fire Nov. 1, 2009. The well release was stopped and the fire extinguished Nov. 3, 2009.

PTTEP started on replacement works on the project during end-2011 and early-2012. Three production wells and one gas injection well sited in the Montara field were also tied back and completed during the same period. Field development has since been continuing and has included the arrival on site of the Montara Venture floating production storage and offloading facility.

PTTEP noted Feb.1 that it is targeting a sales volume of 310,000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) for this year, with the bulk of its increased oil sales to be derived from the start of commercial operations at the Montara field. PTTEP's sales volume for 2012 was at 275,923 barrels of oil equivalent. The spokesperson disclosed that PTTEP has already inked sales contracts based on its projected 2013 production from the Montara field.

The MDP, at its maximum level, can produce 35,000 bopd.
