Freezing rain, fog and icy pavement closed Interstate 25 between Wellington and the Wyoming state line Sunday morning, and likely caused a rollover crash that killed a 25-year-old man from Fort Collins.

His name was not released pending notification of family.

The Colorado State Patrol said the victim was a passenger in a 2001 Dodge pickup driven by 31-year-old Matthew Himberger of Milliken.

About seven miles north of Wellington, Himberger lost control of the truck, ran off the interstate and rolled several times just after 6 a.m., according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The passenger was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the truck. Himberger was injured in the crash. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as causes of the crash, but weather, road conditions and speed are.

The stretch of interstate was closed for four hours, and the troopers worked several other accidents caused by the road conditions, the state patrol said.
