The dangers of thin ice became evident again on Sunday morning.

According to the Denver Fire Department, two joggers saw a dog fall through the ice at a City Park pond.

They jumped in and tried to save him, but ended up needing to be rescued themselves.

The couple swam to an island in the pond to get out of the cold water.

When crews arrived, they tried to revive the dog, but he didn't make it.

The couple was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be OK.

Information on the dog's owner was not released.
